Electrical Device For Welding Human Tissue Approved For Surgical Use In Russia

Ukraine based company, International Association Welding (IAW), has adapted welding technology to bond human tissue in surgery. Without the use of adhesive materials like sutures, staples, sealant or glue, the tissue welding electro surgery generator bonds and reconnects living soft biological tissue through fusion. As part of clinical trails, over 7000 surgical operations at 27 Ukraine hospitals and clinics have been done using the devices. Russian Federal Service of Health Care and Social Development has approved the tissue welding electro surgery generator for commercial use in hospitals and clinics alongwith its commercial production.

The technology was invented and developed at the EO Paton Institute of Electric Welding, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev, Ukraine headed by Prof. B.E. Paton. Live Tissue Connect Inc. (LTC), a subsidiary corporation was formed for the development and exploitation of the platform technology and shares the technology and exclusive world rights to the live tissue bonding device with CSMG Technologies, Inc., which is a technology management company that invested in this technology.

With all necessary approvals in Ukraine and Russia, LTC expects to complete the commercial hand instrumented, electrocautery generator and other electrosurgery components for the tissue welding system and begin product distribution with IAW by the end of 2007. Donald S.Robbins, President and CEO, CSMG believes that sales in Russia and Ukraine could reach $7-10 million in 2008 and could grow at a rate of 50 percent per year for the next several years in these two rapidly expanding medical markets.
