Medical Device Sector Pleads Govt To Implement MoH Certification For Its Products

The medical device sector wants the Ministry of Heath and Family Welfare to implement the Ministry of Health certification (MoH) in the country soon. The industry is hopeful that this certification will give lot of credibility to the industry both within the country and outside.

According to Dr K K Menon, founder chairman and managing director, Maestros Mediline Systems, “Having an effective MoH certification will help in boosting the market of the products that is being sold in the India. Moreover, if these products are duly registered with the government it will not only authenticate the quality of the products but will also improve the service to the doctors and patients.

"He further stressed that though the government is taking steps for the industry by coming up with new regulations it should be more prompt in the implementation of the same if they want to see the desired effect.

”It is high time for the government to implement MoH certification and make it compulsory, as it will ensure that every company will follow correct regulations and quality systems as required. As of now there are many unauthorised and unorganised companies in this sector that is impaling the growth of our industry and thus to keep a tab on them this step has to be taken,” Dr Menon added.

He informed that as of today there is no regulation in the country for the medical device sector which has a huge growth potential in the country. This lack of regulation has made the sector vulnerable for anything and everything.

An industry insider points out that there are many companies in India who import cheap and low quality products from abroad and sell them to the doctors in India. This is not only dangerous for the patients but is also affecting the development of the sector.

Industry believes that MoH certification can help in checking these undesirable practices of these companies besides bringing the medical device sector under the scrutiny of the government.

Bayer Healthcare To Acquire Pathway Medical Technologies

Bayer HealthCare announced that its affiliate, MEDRAD, Inc. has acquired Pathway Medical Technologies, Inc., of Kirkland, Washington. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. ”The combination of MEDRAD and Pathway Medical Technologies underscores our strategic commitment to the treatment of patients in the growing interventional field,” said Dr. Jörg Reinhardt, chairman of the board of management of Bayer HealthCare.

Pathway Medical Technologies, Inc. was founded to design, market and manufacture medical devices for the treatment of vascular disease.
