Hindustan Latex To Open Hospitals
Public sector Hindustan Latex plans to set up low-cost hospitals, particularly
in northern India, to promote good quality reproductive health services.
Hindustan Latex
and HLFPPT, a non-profit organization promoted by the company, have decided to
join hands to set up hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttaranchal under the
Lifespring Hospital network. The first such hospital has already been opened in
Maula Ali, Hyderabad. "The sole aim of the hospitals is to provide good quality
reproductive health services to poor people at affordable prices. We would be
charging just Rs 1,500 for a three-day stay in the hospital for delivery," the
company's chairman & managing director M Ayyappan told reporters here on
Thursday. Headquartered here, Hindustan Latex is the largest condom manufacturer
in the country. While its turnover in the last fiscal grew 20% and touched Rs
195 crore, its profit reached Rs. 20.11 crore.

Becton Dickinson To Make India Base For New Drugs
US based Becton,
Dickinson and company, is planning to make its India facility a manufacturing
base for new drug delivery systems (NDDS) such as pre-filled syringes and oral
packs.
India will be the
second company in the world where BD will manufacture oral packs after Brazil.
BD India plans to
export its NDDS products to Europe and it is all set to begin manufacturing of
auto-disabled syringes, which so far were only being packed and sterilized in
its Haryana facility.
"The Indian
facility, will now also manufacture products both for the Indian and the global
market," said Ram Sharma, MD BD India. While BD's China and Singapore facilities
cater to the global market, the Indian facility was so far focused only on the
local market.
BD India, a 250
people company, is hoping to double its headcount and become a $100mn company
over the next three years." With India being an important market over the next
few years we will step up our investments and double headcount and revenues from
India," added Mr. Sharma. The company's current annual revenues are in the
region of $55mn and it is looking to touch $65 million by September 2007.
