Trivitron Inks Pack With IIT Madras To Set Up Biomedical R&D Centre In IIT Campus

The Chennai-based medical devices manufacturing company, Trivitron Health care Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Madras to set up a Centre of Excellence for Biomedical Research & Development and Design in the IIT Madras which would offer own design, innovative and cost effective medical technology solutions to India and other emerging markets.

The Centre, which would be known as 'Trivitron Innovation Centre', will focus on inventions in medical technology, invent new concepts, design unique products and obtain patents with an access to brilliant scientists and academicians in the IIT campus.

Trivitron, which has a range of over 500 products for over 20 medical specialties, is the first company to set up South Asia's medical technology park in India.

According to sources, the new initiative will make the company to become a game changer by establishing its own design centre and offering innovation, own designs and IPs in medical technology to the country and emerging markets in the world. They hope that the innovation centre will fuel Trivitron's goal to create a centre of excellence to design and develop MT products for its own business needs and manufacturing and be a design and development partner to its joint venture partners and top medical technology players of the world.

IIT Madras has a record of producing some of the world's best talents in the fields of engineering design with application in various fields of technology including advanced biomedical applications for medical technology products. The innovation Centre will help IIT experts to bring commercially viable medical devices into the market through continuous interactions and inputs from Trivitron Engineering, manufacturing & support team and also an employment opportunity for students and project associates in Trivitron design and development centre on and off campus.

In his speech, Dr G S K Velu, managing director, Trivitron Group of Companies said, "Trivitron Innovation Centre at IIT Madras is going to be the first physical infrastructure of its kind in IIT campus for design, research & development of medical devices & equipments in India. We are pleased to announce the alliance with the world renowned engineering institute, IIT Madras to set up Trivitron Innovation Centre in IIT Madras campus. Our main focus to set up the exclusive facility is to conduct research, design and develop processes to bring out cost effective medical technology products to cater to India and emerging markets in the world.

On the occasion, Dr M S Anand, director, IIT, Madras said, "Trivitron Innovation Centre project will draw resources from all the core departments of IIT through its professors and students. The joint initiative will also help students to get a deeper insight in to the medical technology market and make them better prepared to become an expert design and R&D engineers. Prof R Krishna Kumar, head, department of engineering design, IIT Madras will be the coordinator of the centre and will draw diverse talents & resources available within IIT.
