expenses, total value of EU consumption in 1999 of medical
devices and medical disposables amounted to US$ 11,578
million. Medical disposables are the largest market segment,
accounting for 61 percent of this figure, while medical
devices account for the remaining 39 percent of total
consumption.
The main
markets for medial devices and medical disposables in the EU
are Germany, Italy, France and the UK followed bat a distance
by Spain, the Netherlands and Ireland.
The products
with the highest consumption levels are ‘Nappies and similar
hygiene products’ and ‘Syringes, needles and catheters’,
