Becton Dickinson
develops its Global Manufacturing Centre in Drogheda
BD (Becton, Dickinson and
Company) is to invest ?52 million, with the support of IDA Ireland, in the
development and expansion of its medical devices global manufacturing centre in
Drogheda, Co. Louth.
The investment will add a new
dimension to the existing manufacturing operation and is expected to create an
additional 125 new jobs over five years in engineering, processes and
operations, of which 30% will require a third level qualification. Current
employment in Drogheda is 95 people.
BD is a leading global medical
technology company which makes and sells medical devices, instrumented systems
and reagents for healthcare institutions, life science researchers, clinical
laboratories, industry and the general public. It was one of the first
IDA-supported overseas medical technology companies to establish a facility in
Ireland, commencing operations in Drogheda in 1964 and Dun Laoghaire in 1970.
It currently employs a total of 450 people in Ireland across the two facilities.
