year on its healthcare sector
Continued expansion of the
Middle East’s largest medical products market
Saudi Arabia is the largest market for medical
equipment and supplies in the Middle East. The Kingdom’s hospitals
and clinics are amongst the best equipped in the world. 8% of GDP is
allocated to maintaining the best medical system in the region. Over
3 billion US$ are spent annually on its upgrade and expansion.
Recently, the Ministry of Health announced its plans to build 8 new
hospitals to join the 215 public sector hospitals undergoing major
expansion.
Kingdom represents 65% of the
Gulf market’s annual expenditure on pharmaceuticals.
The Kingdom is the largest market in the Middle
East for pharmaceuticals capturing 65% of the Gulf region sales. 99%
of the Kingdom’s needs are imported, there are no barriers to
imports, and pharmaceuticals are exempt from duty.
The very latest medical
equipment demanded in the health sector for new hospitals and 1,800
polyclinics.
The multi-billion dollar annual public
expenditures on the health sector include the expansion of services
at the 180 hospitals operated by the Ministry of Health and the 35
hospitals operated by other public health service. 1,800 polyclinics
are being converted to 50 bed general hospitals and are in need of a
wide range of medical equipment.
Private sector hospitals are in the midst of
rapid expansion, offer massive opportunities for technology and
product suppliers.

dentistry and eyecare products
The opportunities are widespread for the
suppliers of products and technologies for dentistry and eyecare.
Along with the renowned King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, the
Kingdom’s public sector also features some of the largest and best
equipped eyecare hospitals in the world.

The Kingdom has also special demand for endoscopic and
microscopic equipment: Medical lab microscopes.

Medicare attracted companies from France, Greece, Holland, Germany,
UK, USA, Italy, Taiwan, India, Iran, Spain, South Africa, China and
Egypt.
