Manipal Edu. And Medical Group (India) Signs MoU with
German Company For Hospital Waste Management
Manipal Education and Medical Group
(MEMG) has signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Deuttsche Gesellschaft fur Technische
Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), Germany, to set up a first of its kind state-of-the-art 'centre
of excellence in waste management' at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. The centre
will develop intellectual properties in the field of environment management,
while Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) will offer Diploma courses in
the area of environmental and waste management.
Dr. Ranjan Pai, CEO, Manipal Education and Medical Group, said,
"The Centre of Excellence for Waste Management will set new benchmark for
healthcare industry in India." Dr. Jurgen Bischoff, Director, GTZ-ASEM,
said, "A co-operation of this kind with private sector institution like
Manipal and public sector institution like GTZ is vital to tackle environment
issues. This co-operation is in line with the adoption of the charter of World
Summit on Sustainability held in Johannesburg in 2002."
The benefits of the new system include water saving and
consumption minimization. The system will work for both solid and liquid wastes.
It will also upgrade the existing systems at Manipal Hospital for certification
as per ISO 14000 protocols.
The five-decade old Manipal Education and Medical Group
(MEMG)
is the largest Hospital Management Group in Asia. It comprises 14 Teaching
Hospitals (including specialized colleges of Dentistry, Allied Health, Nursing
and Pharmacy), 6 Healthcare Systems with Bangalore, Manipal, Mangalore, Sikkim (Gangkot),
Nepal (Pokhara) and Malaysia (Melaka) as hubs. The group also has 3 Feeder

Nymox's Alzheimer urine test kit to hit European markets
Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation has entered into distribution
agreements for the marketing and sale of its AlzheimAlert test kit with medical
diagnostic companies in Europe.
The AlzheimAlert device technology uses patient urine samples to
measure levels of biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, providing physicians with a
valuable tool for the diagnostic of Alzheimer's disease. Nymox has announced the
certification of its AlzheimAlert test kit with a CE Mark, making the device
available for sale in the European Union.
The CE Marking indicates that a product complies with EU safety,
environmental, and quality standards. Nymox has satisfactorily completed the
testing and registration required to obtain CE Marking for the AlzheimAlert test
kit device.
