US-Based Medical Devices Firm Confluent To
Set Up Manufacturing Pilot Unit In Hyderabad Soon
A medical devices firm, Confluent Medical from United States
of America, is all set to set up its most advanced medical devices unit on a
pilot basis in Hyderabad.
Telangana’s IT and Industries minister K Taraka Rama Rao, who
is on an official tour to USA to attract more and more new investments in
biomedical, biotechnology and various other industrial sectors into the state,
has revealed in a statement that Arizona-based medical devices firm Confluent
Medical has agreed to set up its pilot medical devices manufacturing plant in
Hyderabad and based on its success and more demand for its Nitinol products, the
company is set to expand it further across other states in India.
“The medical devices sector though at a nascent stage in
Hyderabad, the state government is giving highest priority for this sector as
the government had taken MedTech as its strategic focus sectors and has devised
a policy to push this sector further in Hyderabad and make Telangana as one of
the most sought after investment destination for Medical devices in the
country,” said Rao, while expressing his happiness for the USA based medical
devices company agreeing to set up its pilot manufacturing plant in Hyderabad.
Confluent is renowned as one of the leading partners in the
field of material science, development to various medical devices firms in the
world. The firm has been supporting design, development and manufacturing of
life saving implants, minimally invasive delivery systems and other medical
devices.
With the Confluent’s announcement to foray into India, it is
said that the firm will bring in high end technology for manufacturing of
Nitinol products, which is first of its kind technology initiatives in India.
The firm is also expected to offer an array of Nitinol
contract manufacturing services. From simple and delicate wire form devices to
complex and unique laser cut designs, the firm is also aiming to bring in latest
technological advances at the newly established facility in Hyderabad.
“Confluent’s pilot plant in Hyderabad will meet the medical
devices demands of India and customers across Asia. Our company’s objective is
to bring in high end medical technology to India,” observed Dean Schauer, chief
executive officer of Confluent.

Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: In a major boost to medical devices manufacturing and med-tech
innovations in the State, Sahajanand Medical Technologies (SMT) has opened
Asia’s largest stent manufacturing facility at Medical Devices Park on Friday
IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao officially inaugurated the first phase of
SMT Global Hub for Manufacturing and R&D of minimally invasive cardiovascular
devices at the Medical Devices Park.
The facility, which will comprise cardiac stent manufacturing unit and an R&D
centre, will be spread over 20 acres and a total of two lakh sqft space will be
created in the first phase.SMT is a global leader in manufacturing
cardiovascular devices. Once it becomes fully operational, its Hyderabad
facility will produce 1.2 million stents and two million catheters per year.
The facility will also boast minimally invasive new age and highly advanced
cardiac products like Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Heart
Occluders used in patients ranging from the elderly population to paediatrics.
The SMT R&D centre will focus on developing advanced medical products in
interventional, structural and endovascular products in the niche domain of
cardiology. The manufacturing unit will be instrumental in generating employment
opportunities for close to 2,000 people in the State.
In addition to this, the global R&D centre will employ over 300 highly qualified
scientists. The facility will give a significant boost to ‘Make in India’ stent
manufacturing and reducing India’s dependency on foreign stents, which are
imported with heavy duties.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Rama Rao said that over the years Telangana
has recognised the medical device segment as a high-potential and high-growth
sector, which presents unlimited opportunities and a preferred destination for
investment and expansion.
“Today’s inauguration of SMT’s state-of-the-art stent manufacturing and cardiac
devices facility is a step towards making available high quality, indigenously
made, affordable healthcare products that will be made in Telangana for a global
populace,” he said.
